Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis or LASIK, is the most commonly performed and widely-accepted form of laser vision correction. LASIK can treat both nearsightedness and farsightedness, with or without astigmatism.

During the procedure, a microkeratome or an IntraLase femtosecond laser, is used to create a very thin flap of corneal tissue. Once this tissue flap is created, the surgeon positions the excimer laser beam over the eye, directing light pulses to achieve the desired correction. The flap is carefully put back in its original position. Benefits of LASIK are many, including fast visual recovery, minimal or no discomfort, lower risk of haze, glare and halos, and excellent visual outcome.

Quite simply, according to patients, LASIK is “a miracle.” Patients who have relied on eyewear for years are astounded on their ability to see objects clearly across the room, or read a clock, just minutes after the procedure.
