Dr. Everett Ai is a board-certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in the diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous.
Dr. Ai graduated from the University of Iowa and then entered medical school at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center. Soon after, Dr. Ai entered the ophthalmology residency program at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Ai received a fellowship in the diseases of the retina and vitreous at Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center (now California Pacific Medical Center) in San Francisco where he was an ophthalmic examiner in the Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study. Dr. Ai then received a fellowship in ultrasonography at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Following appointments as an assistant professor and Director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program in the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University, Dr. Ai moved to the Bay Area. He was an assistant clinical professor at UC Berkeley for numerous years and an investigator in the Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study at California Pacific Medical Center.
Dr. Ai is currently the Medical Director of the Ophthalmic Diagnostic Center at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and Head of the Retinal Fellowship Program of the Department of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Ai is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Vitreous Society. His areas of interest include Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, and Hereditary Macular Dystrophies.
