Glaucoma

San Francisco Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a potentially blinding disease that affects the optic nerve because fluid builds up. A healthy eye drains aqueous humor through the drainage angle which is located in the front part of the eye.  However, an eye that is impacted by glaucoma may mean the drainage angle is defective which will result in the build-up in pressure thus the optic nerve will become damaged. Glaucoma is easier to treat when caught early, schedule an appointment with one of our specialists today.

Treatments We Offer

In its early stages, glaucoma has no symptoms. Regular check-ups with an ophthalmologist can help screen for glaucoma. If left untreated, glaucoma damage is permanent and cannot be reversed.  At our practice, we have one of the best Glaucoma surgeons in San Francisco, Dr. Scott So, who uses a number of treatments from eye medication to surgeries. Contact us today to learn more about Glaucoma consultations

2 Major Types Of Glaucoma Conditions

  • Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: This occurs when the eye does not drain fluid as well as it should, similar to a clogged drain. This usually results in a build-up of pressure in the eye which will start to slowly damage the optic nerve.
  • Angle-Closure Glaucoma, most commonly known as Closed-Angle Glaucoma or Narrow Angle Glaucoma: This type of glaucoma happens when the iris sits too close to the drainage angle in the eye, thus not allowing enough fluid to drain.  Think of a piece of paper blocking the flow of water over the sink drain.
