Preparing for Your Appointment

Please arrive 10 minutes early for check-in and any required paperwork. We kindly ask all patients to bring the following to each appointment:

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance Card
  • Current medication list, including non-prescription medications and supplements
  • Current eyeglasses and/or contact lenses
  • Referral or authorization (if required)
  • Sunglasses, as your eyes may be sensitive to light after dilation
Items to bring to an eye doctor appointment, including photo ID, insurance card, medications, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and sunglasses

Accessibility & Language Assistance

Pacific Eye Associates is fully ADA-compliant, supporting patients with mobility needs. If you require transfer assistance into exam chairs, please bring your trained caregiver to assist. ADA regulation prevents our PEA staff from lifting or transferring patients.

If you have accessibility concerns prior to your visit, we encourage you to contact our office in advance.

Bring a translator. If you anticipate needing language assistance, we recommend bringing a family member, friend, or caregiver to your appointment. Call your insurance to see if your plan supports audio or in-person translation assistance during medical visits.

We are also proud to offer software-assisted translation service and audio-call interpreters as needed. In addition, our multilingual staff are sometimes available to assist in-office depending on availability. This is schedule-dependent and not a guaranteed service.

Parking & Transportation

Available at the garage located directly below our offices at 2100 Webster Street for approximately $8/hour. Street parking is also available nearby (2-hour residential parking and metered spaces).

We are located adjacent to CPMC Pacific Heights (2333 Buchanan Street). Please enter through the Webster Street entrance, take any elevator to the 2nd floor, and turn right — our office is at the end of the hallway.

Visit Duration

Here as a new patient? Specialist appointments may require advanced diagnostic testing and extensive evaluation per your physician examination. Expect to spend between 2 – 3 hours for a specialist visit.

Needing an eye dilation? Dilation drops can take between 20-30 minutes to take effect before your physician can examine the posterior of your eyes. We have a comfortable waiting room with a water station while you wait for your pupils to adjust.

Optometry and follow-up visits are more expedient, depending on your testing needs. Call us at (415) 923-3007 if you have questions on the time requirements for your specific appointment. We appreciate your patience.

Prescription Refill Requests

Contact your pharmacy directly. You may already have refills approved by your PEA physician. If you encounter a pharmacy problem, call our Triage Department at (415) 417-3329 — please allow 1-2 business days for processing.
